100 Days of Writing

Habit is a curious word. I will always recall my parents saying: “Make your bed every morning, it’ll form a good habit!”

Habit (noun) – a settled tendency or usual manner of behavior. Alternatively, an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary.

James Clear, the author of “Atomic Habits,” writes about the length it takes to solidify a new behavior and make it a routine part of life in his book. My wife and I recently started listening to his audio book, and I must say — there’s good reason his book is a NY Times bestseller. In a brief article on his official website, he cites a study that suggests it takes 66 days to establish a new habit (ranging from 18 to 254 days).

I admit that my ability to follow through with several interests/hobbies needs, well… a lot of improvement. Without further ado, this will officially serve as my first post!

The Challenge

With this information as a starting point, and the notion that I like “round numbers,” I am setting out to challenge myself: write something meaningful for 100 consecutive days. No word minimum, no elaborate theme; this is instead meant to prove to myself that I can adhere to a single hobby for a significant amount of time. My hope is that it’ll be a rewarding experiment that I can look back on as time passes.

1/100 days down, 99 to go!
